FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the benefits of a structured settlement over a lump-sum payment?

Security

A structured settlement provides guaranteed long-term cash payments in flexible terms all while being secured by highly-rated life insurance companies.

Enhanced return

Not only is the settlement itself tax-free under the US tax code, but all income earned from structured settlements is tax free as well, providing for enhanced returns over lump-sum settlements.

The tax-free payments from a structured settlement can:

  • Relieve the financial pressures of medical expenses and living needs;

  • Meet long-term rehabilitation or permanent care facility expenses;

  • Provide for the future costs of college funds, retirement, down payment on a home, or mortgage payment; and

  • Provide long-term financial security.

What kind of flexibility do I have in setting up a structured settlement?

DG Settlements will work with you to establish a unique structure to meet your unique needs which may include:

  1. Equal payments over set intervals – say $5,000 a month for 20 years.

  2. Inflation-adjusted payments over a set time period.

  3. Equal payments to cover typical living expenses, with lump-sum payments at certain time periods for example every 3 years for a new wheelchair, or a new car, once in 5 years to cover a child’s college educational costs, or however most appropriately addresses your wants and needs.

I’m in a lawsuit now,  When should we talk?
The earlier in the process that we can engage the better to ensure your needs are being best addressed.  We specialize in cases across a broad spectrum with unique challenges including:

  1. Persons with temporary or permanent disabilities;

  2. Guardianship cases that may involve minors or persons found to be incompetent;

  3. Workers' Compensation cases;

  4. Wrongful death cases where the surviving spouse and/or children need monthly or annual income;

  5. Severe injury, especially with long-term needs for medical care, living expenses and support of family;

  2. Structured settlements are funded by some of the oldest and strongest life insurance companies in the United States – many of which have been in existence over 100 years.
